High Speed Cameras

High Speed Camera

High speed cameras typically have frame rates of over 1000 fps (frames per second), instead of the typical 24 or 30 fps for television and movies. Today’s cameras use digital CCD or CMOS sensors, recording images directly into a digital format. The effect of playing back a high speed video at normal speeds is that the image appears in slow-motion. High speed cameras are available with frame rates of 6000 fps or more at high resolution, and up to 330,000 fps or more at lower resolutions.

Typical Uses of High Speed Cameras

  • Scientific research
  • Testing and calibrating of industrial machinery
  • Crash testing
  • Military equipment evaluations
  • Slow-motion video entertainment
